In Guangzhou (Canton), Guangdong Province, tucked away in the huge
Yuexiu Park, there is a gigantic walk through attraction themed around
The Journey to the West.
In multiple buildings your path winds through the adventures of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, and his companions. They are portrayed full size and often animatronically. There are funny sections and very scary sections.
In some cases I cannot identify some of the scenes or characters. I have not read all of the story. Please help me identify what is going on in each scene.
Here is poor Monkey sticking his head out from under the Mountain of
the Five Elements where the Buddha put him for punishment.
The figures in this section of the attraction are out of sequence of the story. Monkey got here after he visited the Dragon King, which is the next section of the attraction and shown on the next page.
One of Monkey's guards at the mountain of the five elements.
The guard on the other side of Monkey's head.
I called this one Erlang because of the hound and the mark on the figure's forehead. It doesn't look like other illustrations of Erlang I have seen. This is also out of sequence.
Friar Sand is out here.
This Dragon is right before you pass behind the waterfall of the Water Curtain Cave. I strongly suspect this is the Dragon that will become the Tang Priest's horse. We are about to enter the domain of the Dragon King!
